Forgot Dancin' between Passenger and Estimated!!!
Keith Williams, New Tripoli, PA
Should have skipped this show considering it fell between Coney Island and Nateva (not as much energy as I used to have), but wanted to check out the venue, especially the small size of it. Surprisingly, much less of a 'head' show than Coney Island - a lot of musclehead types on the floor, often pushing their way through the crowd with disdain for others, but in the end everyone had a good time.
Music seemed a little forced at time, not as flowing as Coney, but some good highlights. Easy Wind was nothing short of amazing (where has JK been hiding that stuff?), and flowed nicely into New Speedway for the folks who made it out to "the hill". Sailor/Saint seemed strained, but the jam into Passenger was screaming - nice to hear Passenger and Cucamonga in the same show. Loved the late 70's disco version, but wish they'd carried on through to the instrumental bwammmm-bwam-bwam-bwam-bwam-bwam fills like they used to. Estimated was quite solid, Peter was a little over-blown, and the Gimme Some Lovin' debut was a little disjointed, but been waiting to hear this (missed those old-style Brent hockey fills and Phil's booming intro vocals). Lovelight was surprisingly short, and Revolution was a nice closer.
It seems like Bobby is taking center stage more this time around, but his vocals have been quite up to the task the last three shows, so I guess it's OK. They seemed kind of shaky in February, but he's getting back to his old self, and almost thought he was going to bring the old familiar banshee wails after Estimated. Overall, it's nice how they mix up the vocals from night to night, and how they don't alternate every other song like Jerry and Bobby used to.
Anyway, for the folks listening on the radio, IMHO you didn't miss *too* much by not being there, but it was a solid show nevertheless, as they all seem to be lately...

I am speaking for myself here but am certain that more than a few others share my opinion that JK is just what the scene needed. Yeah, yeah, yeah,.... I know and heard all the arguments but the bottom line is that John is bringing back a sound that has been absent a bit too long. It was no nice to be transported back to those carefree days where weed, beer and tickets were my only concerns. I would be a fool to complain about one note of last night concert. Today, every note is a gift that can and will be taken from us sooner or later. Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile... Funny the last poster made no mention of the rip roaring "He's Gone"...

solid show, but nothing over the top. Kind of anti climactic for such a beautiful venue. Set list wise they blew their load in brooklyn.

Hey Crazy, lest my tired post make me out to be a nay-sayer, I agree with everything you posted about being grateful for what we're getting. Guess I was hoping for a little more from last night given what I had to do to make it there, but listening to it right now and enjoying it just fine. I missed most of the post-Jerry stuff (except Alpine '02 and a few scattered Dead shows), so I'm definitely grooving on Furthur. Sorry if I sounded like a rat in a train ditch...

What a treat to hear the show live in Colorado! Wish every show on the tour would be broadcasted on Sirius. When you close your eyes, it almost feels like you're there at the show. New Speedway Boogie was timely..."One way or another, this darkness got to give" So true! The sun was setting over Longs Peak during Estimated Prophet which was beautiful. The band sounds great with the addition of John, but I do miss Ratdog's jazzy sound and I couldn't help but wonder how Gimme Some Lovin' would have sounded with Kenny Brooks playing his heart out on the saxophone. Maybe he can join the band sometime...Red Rocks in September?

Ratdog is ok....but who doesn't prefer to hear the boys rock instead of Bobdog jazz it's way through these songs. Of course I'll see Ratdog if that's all I have, but you simply cannot beat Furthur at this point. BTW, I'm glad Brooks is NOT in the band, IMO, there's too much sax in Ratdog and I think it tends to ruin the songs.

But about the show. For a sold out show, there was plenty of room to move around. I didn't personally run into anyone pushing or shoving their way through the crowd. Everyone I encountered was quite pleasant. And nothing against Kenny Brooks at all, I just really enjoy listening to THIS outfit do their thing. See you Mann weekend boys!

Sorry, I think "ruin" was a rather strong word...sax just isn't my thing for Dead tunes. I'll shut up now. Cheers.
