Also Uncle John's Band after Samson. Fantastic show, worth every penny. Seemed as though it would never end.

rip youre head off and shove it down youre throat amazing
i thought they went off pretty good in hampton "except no encore" but this show was smokin...... johns notes are fabulous, this band is such a far cry from "ratdog" the intro to "time" was breathtaking
im sooo happy i dont miss these shows

Wow! What an epic show! Right up there with some of the best Grateful Dead shows. The band did seem to play forever! Definately worth every penny.

Enjoyed every minute of it!!
Till the Morning Comes was sweet and swingin'...
Bobby's joke was funny and he got people laughing and feeling relaxed.

Absolutely loved Good Lovin'....relished every note on that one. Possibly one of the best versions I've ever heard!

Magnolia Mountain was beautiful. I've never heard this band's version of it. Has a ol' style ring to it, like in the same category as "Lazy River Road"... brought a tear to my eye.

Sugaree was amazing and 'saucy'..got everyone groovin'.
The second set really rocked with a never-ending "woven thru everything" Bird song.

"Time" by Pink Floyd was unbelieveable with the light show, back up vocalists, and Phil singing his heart out.

Morning Dew was sensational! I had goosebumps throughout the song and JK played it with such energy and such reverence!

In the Midnight Hour was hot! Love the Wilson Pickett original version, so it was fun to hear this one. Enjoyed hearing Bobby put his own "spin" on it.

Bid You Goodnight was icing on the cake and had an "old school" feel to it. I heard a neat "round" of vocals towards the end. Somewhat of a gospel tone to it.

Couldn't help but feel a sense of gratefulness to the band and their effort to take this music further. I took a moment up in the stands to "take it all in"....the lights, people "letting go", the present moment...a certain peacefulness.
It's a treat to share this music time and time again... Watching people feel free of worry, and mundane life.
In such a crazy, somewhat scary world that is full of uncertainty, Further brought some fun adult entertainment that truly is unlike anything else.
Big thank you to the band! Please come back to some of the breezy outside venues Colorado has to offer.

The energy was electric! Loved the old school Pigpen songs! Tears of joy were streaming down my face more than once! The perfect night of music and love were complete with the Jerry Cheshire Cat Moon low in the Denver sky! I hope they never stop!

Killer show. This setlist has two errors...

There was a distinct return to Bird Song after Alligator and before Dark Star, and the encore included Uncle John's Band.

Setlist should read:

I: After Midnight
Next Time You See Me
Till the Morning Comes
Cumberland Blues >
Good Lovin
Magnolia Mountain
Ripple
Sugaree

II: Golden Road to Unlimited Devotion >
Bird Song >
Alligator >
Bird Song >
Dark Star >
Time >
Dark Star >
Morning Dew >
Let It Grow >
In the Midnight Hour >
GDTRFB >
And We Bid You Goodnight

E: Samson and Delilah
Uncle John's Band

Mason, Denver, CO
Epic show. The first night was great too but this show was incredible. They are just getting better and better. John is playing with such confidence now, they are a fully realized unit now. All I can say is how happy I am to see this band lineup finally come along.

Note there was a definitereturn to Bird Song after Dark Star and a second encore song Uncle Johns Band as noted on an earlier post. Perfect show.

Kevin, San Francisco
OMFG, this show was ridiculously good! I am totally blown away by how great this band is!!! Have always adored Phil and saw scores of Phil and Friends show, after hundreds of GD shows, but this had to be one of the best ever! Was definitely not expecting to have my mind blown like that...WOW! Really makes me want to go back on tour...wish I could swing it. Phil is one of the seven wonders of the world, and I don't know what the other 6 are...he is really amazing! I love him more than words can tell! I sure hope they will be playing SEVERAL shows at Red Rocks this summer...Phil once said it was his favorite place to play outdoors in the whole country. Please, please, please play Red Rocks!!! Thank you!

Suanne, Nederland, CO
Have been listening to the evolution of this band on archive.org...All I have to say is WOW! All of the shows have been good but it seems after or around 2/24 they have gelled and taken it to the next level. From every performance since the middle of Feb this band has elevated, CAN NOT WAIT until SUMMER!

Jamie, Endicott, NY
Well..If Jerry is God than JK is Jesus!! Holy shit what a show....This band is just getting hotter and hotter every show... Just close your eyes and listen to JK`s guitar ..You`ll get the feeling Jerry is the house once again!!!
Can`t wait for Phils birthday show....The word is going around that Mickey and Billy will be there. Can`t wait to hear the "core four" play together with JK .

BillyO, Trenton
epic, epicly boring, thats how epic. wanna bore me? play birdsong and darkstar the same show. Its like ordering pasta with a side of mashed potatoes, its redundant, and makes no sense at all. By the time the show got late into the second set, the momentum had been long lost, and it became a question of not will the set be hot, but can we save this train wreck. yawwn

motley e. turk, colorado springs
No, billy), take it from an old timer, which is what ya are if ya caught the great late jerry when he played consistently well, like in the mid, early 80's or prior, that JK is not jesus to the god jerry. JK is trying to sound like jerry, and does very well, and is more consistent than jerry and his phase out moments that could last 1/2 a show, an entire show, maybe even 50% of a tour. But when he was hot, when he was on, when jerry was on his game, is the major leagues and JK is a single A player, a call up who is doin nice hitting 330 in his first season with 6 homors and 28 rbi's early in the season, as compared to the man himself, who wrote, developed, nurtured, and fathered every one of his songs into a masterpiece. Lets not get crazy here, JK is good, clean fun, but he ain't jerry and would never tell ya that he is. Funny, half the people at the show are too young to have ever seen jerry at all. These youngters of today. When I was growing up, we did 2 hits of the dancing bear and had to make it thru the space, malaguena, other one. today, there is not space. As the song says, theres nothin like the real thing. this is close, but it ain't as good as God.

mark, denver
we all know this is not the real thing, but it is as close as your gonna get, we know jk did not write this songs but does play them pretty good, i started listening to the gd in the 70s, so iv seen garcia many times, your right mark when garcia was on he was on, but for now this is what we have, so listen up or find somthing else

jeff, old saybrook ct
Ok, I'm going to get right to the point here, since I haven't noticed anybody else saying this, and if you have sorry, I didn't see it at first glance.

WHY don't they let JK take the Jerry vocals on the Jerry songs. Bobby should not be singing Ripple and Sugaree, when you have JK sitting right there, and I'm sure, willing and able to sing them MUCH better than Bobby. This is just flat out frustrating, man.

I'd like to hear other people's thoughts on this....

Peace

DanMan, Portland, OR
DanMan,
I have to agree with you, although I thought the shows here were great, especially the second night, they could have been even better with John doing the Jerry vocals. It's almost as though they (Phil/Bobby) don't want him doing the full-on Jerry thing, which I can sort of understand, but I agree JK could do the Jerry vocals way better than Bobby. We all miss Jerry very much, and It was almost a bit eerie to have JK up there sounding a lot like Jerry and even looking like a young version of Jerry, but he has made a career of studying Jerry and he does it very well. Now that he is in the band, I would prefer that he do it. Why does Bobby have to sing the "Inspiration" part of Terrapin, for instance? When JK sang Morning Dew on Saturday night I nearly cried. It was fabulous! No, not as great as Jerry, for sure, but no one ever will be again. Jerry was a true musical genius and a natural...completely original in every way. No one imitating him can ever rise to anywhere near that level. But JK is as close as it gets in Jerry's absence, IMO. I believe Jerry would approve.

Suanne, Nederland, CO
Saw them in December in NYC, at the time thought they sucked, the chemistry was horrible and that JK was a wannabe. But I was willing to keep an open mind, hoping that they would work the kinks out. Saw 2/14 & 15, 2/22, 23 & 24 and two of those five (2/14 & 24) were among the best Dead or Dead-related shows I've ever witnessed live. It's a beautiful thing when it is both approached with an open mind for the possibilities therein AND the leaders put their egos aside for the greater good...

...but does anyone REALLY think that there aren't egos still at work? So if they feel that they've got the right to dictate who does what when, well it's better than the alternative which is not to have this present incarnation around and/or not to support this present incarnation. Could the overall "product" (once again, the fact is that this is still a business) be better by giving JK more "air time"? IMHO (and as others also have expressed) yes. Is that going to happen? Probably not. Freedom of choice now dictates whether this "product" is worth "it". I say: see you on the summer tour bus as much as possible. I'll continue to "purchase" this "product" as is as long as they maintain the same intensity level as they basically demostrated on this current run. I'll take my chances...:-wink/smile

Peace,
Alex

To all yall people who wanna give your opinion about this band, write your reviews, compare songs, compare Jerry to JK, criticize the set list, fall asleep during Dark Star...etc...ect....etc. You have GOT to be kidding me.....I mean....take a deep breath...your ship is sinking and your bailing water with a spoon. C'mon.... This music is such a gift to us right now.....and you dare spoil it with this TRAIF!!!! This band, this tour, is a gift that should be recieved with joy and humility. Ive listened to this drivel since '95. Some of the music was good, some bad, but we always knew what Bobby and Phil were giving us could never approach what we were looking for...... but not ANYMORE..... this IS the SHIT! I only hope we can get some more of this in the years to come, and you naysayers choose not to come, so someone who appreciates it can!

grateful72, cleveland
For all of you complaining about Bob Weir, co-founder of THE GRATEFUL DEAD, singing some of Jerry's songs, Shut UP!!! John can sing a little better, sure, but give me a break. If you would rather see a guy from a Grateful Dead cover band sing rather than an original member of the Dead, GO HOME, DONT come to the shows. It is ridiculous..............

Adam, Boston
DanMan The frustration! You got no clue how you've offended me. My opinion is that you don't even deserve
to use the good word peace at the end of your post.
All I hear is PEACE when Bobby sings Ripple.
Listening to you say that sh@# I found not one ounce
of peace. Bob Weir (and a few others)
cannot remove themselves from their music,
why would they. IMHO my post is MUCH better
than your post. John is very special, no doubt but,
BOB WEIR ROCKS! LOVE YA BOBBY! CYA SOON!

The Great Blue Heron, Portland, OR
End it already & have a good time! Ya, I see what ya did there.

Hippy Freak, Waving the White Flag
Hey people, I love all this back and forth, bring it on ... its good to know there are many ways to react to what this band is doing. Theres always been nay sayers and critics who've hated the Dead for as long as I can recall. I just ignore em. So thats nothing new. And speaking as a Head with 200+ shows going back to the late 70's, I figure I have a choice, and I choose to listen. And I like what I hear. Of course it's not the Man, and no one is pretending it is. Lets let the Music Play the Band fercryinoutloud! If Bob wants to sing a Jer song, so fing what? To those of you that hate this band and it's music, please stay home.

Kevin, San Francisco
Funny comments on John singing Jerry, vs. Bob or Phil. This band isn't going back, its going furthur. Get it? You want to hear furthur, listen to Phil sing Peggy'o at Ithaca, a true Jerry song. Better? no. Furthur? yes. Get it?

Believeitornot, Phil
Amen Kevin!!! A show is both a fellowship of sorts and a very personal thing. Both nights were fantastic but Sat nite was truly something special for this Head. Dark Star and Bird Song were beautiful and played with raw emotion skill, and love. I love that Bobby's story teller voice is evolving into an instrument of its own. Bobby can knock out a Jerry/Hunter tune any day as far as I'm concerned. Nothing but smiles for me and my friends.....and everyone near us on the floor. The energy was movin from stage right thru each individual in eye sight. Thanks to Furthur for making this Head's trip worth every penny. Sat was an all time top 5 for sure! Safe travels to all.....Schultzy

Listen-up !!!All you JK haters need to realize one thing.... John is a student of one of the greatest guitar players in the last 4 or 5 decades...."a student"!!! a student that did very very well to "teach himself" to play like the master...And as fare as I`ve heard probably the best at it!!!No different than Branford Marsales , Dave Sanborn,Junior Walker being addmited students of the great Charlie Parker ...And Bruce Hornsy being an admitted student of John Coltrane, Chopin & Monk.. The olny difference is that John has been called to play the music of his master....A job he is doing pretty fucken good...Better than Warren did last year!!! No to take anything away from Wannen but playing dead music like dead music sounds dosnt fit Warrens style.
I`m not a young fan....I`m class of "76" for my first show. Seen Jerry with the dead and JGB over 100 times.
This furthur band is by fare the best post Jerry line-up since 7/9/95.. Yes Bobbys voice isn`t as good as it used to be and maybe he should let John sing more of Jerrys songs (standing on the moon, sugaree, bird song, all of terripen ETC) But this band with Bobby and Phil together again is all we have right now to play the music we love. Much better than P&F and Rat dog..
It`s all about love people..Get on the BUS and enjoy the ride!!

BillyO, Trenton
These guys never cease to amaze me! Just when I think I have Furthur figured out they pull out a show like this one! Totally unexpected songs - next time you see me, till the morning comes, ripple (in first set). Sugaree was fun too! The entire second set was outrageous!! The flow and in and out of Birdsong>Alligator (OMG!!)>Birdsong>Dark Star>Time (OMG!!)>Dark Star was like one long hour long song!! Phil just nailed the David Gilmore parts of Time, my heart was racing! Then as I mentioned the night before about Terrapin feeling like 77 well the Morning Dew tonight was like out of 1973. It was just beautiful, flawless, unreal, I was in tears!! Boy what a grate grate night!!! Now it is no sleep then get up and drive to Portland!! Oh my!!

Denver Man, Colorado
Thank you, for a real good time. Thats about it, it was a good time, Went 2nd night broomfield. I knew exactly what I was going to see, I knew I wasn't going to see Jerry, Jerry is dead. I was going to see some music, a night out, music that I enjoy, songs that I think are lyrically well written (ty r.hunter) and have incredible amounts of room for musical interptetation. Thats all it has been, interpretation of the original, a younger, more exurbernt Phil and Bobby and the master, Jerry Garcia...and that is fine. "listen to the music play" stop comparing to what it "was". Do you not think current Clapton is not just an interpretation of his younger self when he romped with the Beatles (wives, haha). Take a look at the Gratefuldead web page, look at the members of the band, so many over the years, all contributing to the larger scale. Some can say and DO say that GD died when Pig died. Anyways, the point of all of this is, that many people think this version "Furthur" is "fake" Gratefuldead. Its not, it's a tribute and a damn good time. Many are bitter that their Gratefuldead was taken away from them when Jerry died, still griveving, forever grieving and rightfully so, Jerry was the master, and rarely let you down....no, this grief is understood, and be aware that you and your sadness are supported by all of us in the GD family and always will be. It will never be "out of place" to say you miss Jerry, never. But Jerry is dead nothing gold can stay. And the grief many still feel may be evident in some of the negative reviews of JK and of the Furthur project in general. This is misplaced criticism, this band Furthur, they are good, real good, so go check it out if you want, but dont go looking for Jerry, he isn't there. JK is there, and he can play and sing is very talented and a pleasure to listen to, and frankly, one of the best parts of the show. He is respectful and contrite and only wants tpo make it sound GOOD, you can tell. Don't negatively review the band and thier amassing synergy becuase you are bitter about Jerry's passing, this music is good, and Bobby and Phil are enjoying their creation, you don't think THEY are missing their brother Jerry? Nothing gold can stay. But the band plays on, if you want to have a nice night out, give em a try, they won't let you down, unless you go looking for Jerry.

p.s. sorry to be a blow hard, but one thing to note, if the gents play redrocks I will be bringing my children, the vibe is excellent, no hells angles or significant darkness and of course, the music is excellent.
