wow! i won tickets to both the Roseland show in NYC and this one in Albany and i've definitely seen an improvement in the jams/improve within the band. It's a blessing to be able to go to a show like this and regain some of the old spirit and feelings of "the days between"
The show meandered here and there but it was a classic jammin' exploring night. My favorites were actually the Warren tunes that were performed impeccably with soul and feel. Bob ended the night with a high dose of energy and it looks good that this could be the medecine we need. I'm a musician and long time fan and i thought it held up pretty well. The party favors don't hurt either......
Gotta love a half hour long Viola Lee Blues too........
The garden is looking pretty good right about now for me.........

I don't have time to go into it but here's a quick review: The band is tight and sound great. I still love the core four. I do not need to hear certain (most) Jerry songs sung by others. Sugaree and Comes a Time are great songs...we all know this but they are slow and buzz-killers. If you figure that a set is about 1.5-2 hours and they play a 15 minute Sugaree...I'd rather get a hot Greatest/Mexicalli/etc. I wanted the first set to end with a bigger bang. Set one was very cool and sharp. Set two was also hot but long songs can drag. VLB and TOO were highlights and who can go wrong with a Chain-T. Stones? NFA should have eneded the set...not an encore.
Warren has tone issues...I love him as a player, I've met him and he's way cool...I do not like his tone or licks. Bobby is still #1 in my book. Great phrasing and determination...even a little in front of monitors cheppie for the end of T.Stones.

"One word. Ep-Ic" were the words of my uncle and long time dead head. This was actually my first show and even the next day I cant put words to the experience I got last night. For me this was more than just a Dead show. It was a journey into the musical aspect of my soul. The energy throughout the Times Union dug way down deep into my soul and came up with a whole new love for The Grateful Dead that I have never felt before. I have been listening to these guys my entire life, and i sadly never got to see Jerry for I was too young when he died (god bless his soul) but my dad and my uncles tell me it was a great show to start off with. Wether I'll ever get the tremendous privlage to see them or not, I can't say. But I'll sure as hell do everything in my power to witness a show like this again. Lastly I would just like to give a huge THANKS to my uncles and father for helping me to put this expierence under my belt. And obviously another big THANKS to Bobby, Phill, Mickey, Bill, Warren, Jeff, and the entire crew that made this trip possible.

With countless shows under my belt from the mid 70's up until Jerry's death I have to say this show ranks in the top 10 of all the shows. It was my first experience of seeing The Dead without Jerry and I must say they were tight! I was happy to hear the 15 or 20 minute jam they did with Sugaree - a true tribute to Jerry. The drum solo was mesmorizing and intense - one of the best I have heard. I wish I was able to travel and follow them around like I did back in the day. A THUMBS UP REVIEW!!!

I was sorrily disappointed. Paying $100 to see the core 4 might've inflated my expectations. I just wish the boys were stick to their own shet. Drums was really the only inspiring moment for me. Phil & Bobby have enough great tracks between them to allow us relive old times and bring back the magic. I just find that playing Jerry tracks is futile and uninspirational.

Imo was a smoking show.sorry Todd you dont always get what you want.Unbroken was a treat,as well as VLB.met a lot of Warren haters there,I thought he was great.all in all a great show,be easy all.

It was awsome to see the boys back together again. Im only 21 and never saw Jerry but i have seen countless ratdog, phil, darkstar, and even the other ones shows. And sorry to be disappointing but i have seen ratdog blow this show out of the water. I thought the highlight was the sugaree. Also clod rain and snow, brown eyed women, cool west la jam. But the half hour viola lee I mean come on.....and i can never stand a NFA encore. I thought after drums and space the show lacked in my opinion. I will be seeing them again soon in rothbury and hopefully they can surprise me.

Well all the expectations of the Deads return to the Albany were truly let down. First set was great playing wise middle to end was great energy the west la jam had hints of cumberland in it but it did quite get there so we got it a song later. Second set was allright it some moments the full intenseity of sugaree were the band would wind up and let fly. OTher One had some moments of insanity. Drums were the highlight for me its allways interesting for me. The little jam after the rockin part of unbroken chain was meldolically pleasing. It was 50 times better show than the spac show and 04 and hartford 03. But all and all they have lost some of the magic and seem to lack something oh yeah Jerry. So seeing that amount of post jerry dead i have seen maybee they should hang it up or drop ticket prices because there wasnt a whole lot for me to justify going to see more shows.

first, for all of the folks who have never seen the dead with jerry and write such glowing reviews, I just don't get it.
the first set had some moments, but the 2nd set never caught the spark.
the comment about playing jerry tunes is true.
for 100 bucks a pop the boys have plenty to choose from.
second, why all of this hero worship ?
these are just people.
they are older now and it is harder for them to put on a 3 hour show than it was 20 years ago.
sure it has some high times and some low points.
that is to be expected but sheesh,
let's get over the "it was the best show" intro.
it was a 6 out of 10.
let's hope for great sets to come.
we want the spark.
turn on the lovelight and let it shine.

So all in all it was a great time the three (Albany/Wooster) shows i had the chance to see!!! The best of the three was the last (the 2nd Wooster ) And I'm not compleetly sure why... It might be the set list or the crowd vibe or that we didn't spend the day traveling ...but even the worst of the three for me was Albany even though they played cold rain and snow like they did in the 90's some time ago...Anybody else noticing that Bobby seems more energetic ? I can't wait for Hartford It'll be FUN and an experience like no other as always even without the man Jerry . I think I can still see the twinkle in his eye when i close mine at a show...Then I Smile

Did anyone think about adding this show to the dead archive? I'd love to hear it.

Jesus Christ! All you heads who have become professional critics are working overtime. You sound like the two old crusty judges on the muppet show. Next time try a veggie burrito followed by a lukewarm pabst. That should start to break the ice.....

I agree with matt. Good call about the reviews. I agree the band was tight. The first set was solid and none of the songs were over played. The second set felt like a slow death. Lacked energy....... Phil could not even get the band going during the Others.... Phil played great. Bobby spent more time adjusting his equipment than thinking about a better second set. I know sometimes you don't always here your favorite tuns at Dead shows. But too many songs were opver played during the cecond set. Very disappointed.... All you after Gerry show goers.... I feel sorry that you never got to see Gerry. The core 4 do a nice job. But Gerry was the man....

Gripe, gripe gripe. Listen, all you complainers, these guys don't have to do squat and you would still listen to your cassette tapes in basement, dicks picks, MP3s, Sirrius and any other way you could get their music. I know I would and do. I loved seeing them every spring summer and fall tour on the east coast and other venues across the nation. It was a right of passage. We should all be Gratefully Thankful that they decided to tour and enjoy it while we can.
To quote my 8 yr old "you get what you get and you don't get upset".
To quote Billy - "It's not the same without Jerry, it never will be".
