Going back for the Philly shows and LA Forum and 1st Shoreline, can`t wait-after getting excited with 1st 2 shows setlists, VA setlist just blew me away, these guys are having fun and I can only hope that the Bus continues at this pace for the 4 shows I will be lucky enough to attend.
After having seen them 12/30 and 12/31 in San Fran, this is like a Dream come True. ST Stephen, High Time,Foolish Heart all in the same show, are you Freakin kiddin me, hats off to anyone at this show and may the Music live forever. Bobby we will see you again at Humphreys 9/4/09-Any chance the Dead can play there under a name no one knows??? Just Dreamin a little!!!!

I believe in going furthur and all that, but I was very skeptical going into last night's show. I felt a little more at ease after seeing the NYC sets, but was worried what kind of train wreck a big room might bring.

Other than a weird Foolish Heart thing, the whole night smoked. The Mason's Children was great, as was the Doin' That Rag. Great New Speedway. High Time!?! It was as good as it looks. Playin' was right on. STOM was a tear-jerker. And I'm glad Bob et al still have the balls to do Space full out, regardless of who in the audience is listening. Just made St. Stephen that much more stratospheric when they put it all back together. Gloria encore. Say no more.

The whole band, even Warren--maybe esepcially Warren--were cookin'. Bob's playing was inspired, and the interplay b/t Warren, Phil, and Bob was perfect. Get your tickets while they are hot.

Throw your energy at the stage, per BINB, and it will come back to you 1000 fold. See you in Albany!

HHHHHMMMMM. I thought Jeff sucked. You could barely hear Jeff and Warren. Warren was very patient (too patient and too scared to stand out and do his own thing). I felt like Warren was playing the same thing as Bobby and the band was essentially missing a lead guitarist.

How about we get BOBBY stop singing Jerry tunes!!! Either let Warren sing them or sing them closer to how Jerry sang them. I know Bobby wants to put his spin/touch on them, BUT Standing on the Moon sucked! The way Bobby sang that song totally RUINED it!

The setlist was hot, but I felt like the band was practicing half the time and were rehearsing for later shows.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed seeing the "Dead" again, but it is moving far away from what it once was. There is some missing chemistry and some change needed. Basically, here are my THREE SUGGESTIONS to keep the DEAD Rocking forever:

1. Arrange the schedule and tour dates around STEVE MOLITZ. Sorry Jeff, you are RAT DOG and not DEAD quality. Steve knows how to get trippy, spacy, and loud when needed. Jeff seems to content to be Bobby's lackey and ALWAYS being quiet behind Bobby. Space was alright (at best). The Particle concert late night blew away the Dead show...

2. NEVER let Bobby sing Jerry's songs in Bobby's style/version. It is disrespectful to Jerry to sing Jerry songs SO DIFFERENT from the way we fell in love them. Either sing them like Jerry or leave them up to Warren...

3. I think people are beginning to get RATDOG confused with the DEAD. Well, Bobby may be getting these two confused. Look at suggestions 1 & 2 and they both come back to Bobby... Bobby has always been the leader of the Grateful Dead (sorry everyone, it was not Jerry). However, Jerry made the Grateful Dead. Now that Jerry is gone, respect his contributions, versions, styles, and hold on to it. I think I am still disgusted with that Standing on the Moon at the end of first set.

SUMMARY: KEEP ON PLAYING BOYS! Thank you for the music and love you share with us. This feedback is just my own little opinion and I hope no one confuses it with hatred, disgust, or being offensive. Just some brutally honest feedback that I hope someone listens to and agrees with.... Honestly, Phil and Friends last year with Steve Molitz was far better that what I saw the other night....

On a "POST JERRY SCALE" of the Dead/Other Ones/Phil & Friends/Further stuff, I'd give this show a 5 out of 10 (just because the setlist was HOT, not because of the quality of the sound or the individual band's performance).

I feel confident that the chemistry will greatly improve as the tour goes on, but I want to see them in about 50 more shows..... So, KEEP ON TRUCKIN' and PLAYIN' IN THE BAND.

Duke...even during the days of the Grateful Dead there was always "another picky deadhead" providing their critical input about a show. I think everyone got different things at Grateful Dead shows and will get different things at Dead shows. I have been really happy with the song selection thus far in the tour...I think that the Dead are staying out of familiar territory. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't. I am just happy that they are touring so it will take a lot for me to slam anyone in the band.

I can`t believe someone at that show Z-man-must mean you were asleep-would write such a review, remember the words dude, Thank you for a Real Good Time, Smile, Smile,Smile, let it be known that most people go to enjoy themselves and get away for a little bit the real world. Try to have a Good time at your next show, and by the way I was not there and probably had a better time just reading the setlist then you had at the show!!!!!

Blanch, San Diego
I wasn't at this show, but I was at DC, and based off of how they played at DC, this show would have been rockin' as well. Jeff rocks on keys, he played Alabama Getaway to perfection. Maybe Z-man just had really bad seats....idk. Too many bad reviews this tour, seriously the band sounds great!

Keith, Alexandria, VA
I agree on the Bobby singing Jerry tunes. Let Warren do it. Bobby ruins them.

Lighten up z-man . How many shows have u seen? I've seen over 300 and have enjoyed every one for its uniqueness you might want to try to do the same. As far as Jeff goes are kiddin me dude seriously have some fun and dance man. The boys rocked this night and every show so far!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone STILL complaining at this point in the game REALLY, REALLY need a new hobby. Just listen to your Dick's Picks and stop going to shows. You are all unbelievable. The band is playing very well. Cut the crap and LET BOBBY SING whatever the hell he wants to. He is singing better now than in the 70's.

Long time Dead fan, and lots of shows since 76, haven't seen the Dead since Jerry died. Last summer I saw Rat Dog at Hampton Beach and back up Greg Alman in Mansfield and the Orphium in Boston. Every show rocked solid, yet their were still a few grumblers. Get over it folks enjoy the ride while it still lasts. My bro is in Albany right now, see ya all in Worcester Sat n Sunday. PS those of us oldies 45 and up stay away from Uncle Ken Kesey ! It's so easy to trip! It'ls so easy to fall! Bombs away guess I'm back in love again!

So many shows since Manor 1982 that I've quit counting- all the incarnations that have rolled through Colorado since that time -
.Saw Greensboro, D.C., & Charlottesville - Great seats at each of those shows -
SOTM sung in Virginia was worst song of our little tour - no question, he butchered it. Sorry guys more Warren singing anywhere helps simply because he has a great voice. I love these guys and would see them anywhere, turning the only lead guitar does not make Bob sound better, but you can hear his playing better.
Personally, after seeing Ratdog over and over from 1996 Laguna Seca Daze to Bobby's collapse onto the drum kit at the Summer Solstice show with Jerry Jeff Walker outside of Santa Cruz in 1998 - with some pretty good shows mixed in since then at various places - those dirge style reditions of Jerry's classics where he talks the verses at different speeds throughout the songs to prevent a sing-a-long (I Guess?)

I am not clear on why everyone got down on Z-man, but he is right on about SOTM. It is my very favorite song of all time. Terrapin is the only one that even comes close and I was absolutely destroyed by what Bobby did to it. I saw them somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 times prior to Jerry's death and have seen them in every incarnation that they have been in since then. I can not tell you how excited I was when I hear the opening chords of this song that was meant so much to me for so long. And then Bobby did it: He decided that he knew better. He was going to make sure that he did it his way, regardless of how it sounded. And he managed to take that song and turn it upside down. How could he have thought, for two minutes, that he could do it better than Jerry had done it or than Warren would do it, if given the chance. I will, of course, continue to go see them, I always do, but I cannot express how deeply saddened I was by the performance of this song. It really broke my heart!

I was at Greensboro, DC, and here... the band just keeps getting better. Every show had a little *less* space and a little *more* rocking and rollin'. Just what the doctor ordered!

Standing at the rail Dead Center (OTRDC)- and watching the entire second set- I agree with some of the comments though:

1. Let Warren step out- he sings like a bird! Do the Jerry tunes.
2. Speed it up boys! (This ain't Ratdog).
3. Turn Up Jeff- he is playing his brains out- it's just that you can't hear it.

I will drop back in on tour at Denver for the backend view.

Looking forward to a killer finish and more fun than a frog in a glass of milk!

Best show of the tour up to Buffalo.

Z-man. What an ass.
It'll pass you before you know it.
Life's short. Enjoy bro.

One thing the Dead do need to remember is that they are not the jazzy Ratdog. I love the dead and love seein the nostalgia factor, its amazing. My only complaint is that they need to pick up the tempo to keep folks attention. The tempo was way too slow and I nearly fell asleep. Only tune that was uptempo was Crazy Fingers. I want to keep going to shows but as they sound now, id rather stay at home and listen to dicks picks than be dissapointed live by my favorite band.
